upon looking at my bookshelf this evening, i’ve realized i have a lot of reading to catch up on. that is why i would like to make this my first blog updating the book i’m currently reading…
“Absurdistan” by Gary Shteyngart.
jillian got it for me along with a 60 inch high penguin marvel currently set up in my room. she wanted to get me something to change my life, like a book or something and this one is supposed to be like one from 2 of my favorite authors so this was her choice. very good choice. i’m about a hundred pages into it and i can already say it’s really good. it’s kinda weird. but really good. if i were you, i’d recommend the first 100 pages to everyone i know. which, it so happens, i already do. and i don’t do that a lot.
anyways, expect this to become an occasional addition to my blog.
in other news, go see sweeney todd. really, really, really good. good like the first 100 pages of “absurdistan” (see above). i don’t really like musicals and i liked it. i even bought the soundtrack. it’s that good.
finally, i would like to let everybody know that i wish them a happy new year with hopes that next year is a lot better than this one, regardless of how much tail you managed to snag.
Sorry I haven’t been posting, readers. I’ve been really busy since I got back from my trip but I’m trying as hard as I can to get the pictures edited and put up a post with all of them.
A small preview of my pictures can be seen, given that I have now changed the header to a picture I took while walking through Rome and now have a user pic, the most epic high five ever, at Lake Homo Como.
I want to take this time to talk about a band though yet, this is not just any band. If you’ve ever met me, you’ve probably heard me talking about them for hours on end and when it comes down to it. Yes, Seattle’s Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground is the greatest band in the good old US of A at the moment and I’m prepared to argue that with you. A band formed from two members of Gatsby’s American Dream, Kay Kay is pure genius. The sound covers everything from rock to jazz. You can turn on Kay Kay and just get lost in the music and all which you discover through it. They released a live album (amazing quality) available now on iTunes and are recording a studio full-length. Kay Kay recently made their TV debut on Last Call (Like the Format…) and are heading up. Check them out on their myspace
And
This video from their DVD “Live From The Pretty Parlor” performing “Hey Momma”:

EDIT:
You guys are the worst friends in the history of the world. Here I am, throwing myself at you every so often, telling you everything. My half birthday rolls along and what do I get? NOTHING! You know what, maybe I quit!
Jason Bourne vs. James Bond. JB vs. JB. USA vs. England. Bulls vs. Lakers in the NBA playoffs. Personal War vs. Cold War. The list can go on forever, well, at least until I make even more irrelevant comparisons. Now, this argument can go either ways. It’s a close one. I’ll first give you a brief opinion of each and then my decision on the winner.
Jason Bourne – Fun movies with a great story line. They center around Jason Bourne, a former special agent in the CIA trained in odd manners which lead to various mental problems. After one mission, his memory is erased and he is thrown into the ocean. His goal is to use his minimal amount of flashbacks and knowledge gained to figure out who he is and get revenge for what has happened to him. He’s a hero, but he isn’t. He’s going up against the US government but given the class I’ve taken the past 4 weeks, I don’t blame him. He uses conventional weapons and tactics to defeat his enemies. The movies are great. The cinematography is excellent and the characters are amazing. The thought-inducing plot leaves much to be answered. It’s a reason like that, that I appreciate the show lost. It doesn’t show or tell you everything. You have to think. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. Two movies released with a third coming next week and then the series will be over. The lead has always been played by Matt Damon.
James Bond – Exciting. Great special effects. Visually stunning. Creative plots. Amazing weaponry. Larger than life super-villains. All great things but, are they real enough? The movies are fun to watch and always have great development but, sometimes it just isn’t believable. James is a flawless character with no constant inner struggle. The plots rarely connect across movies and the actor playing Bond is constantly replaced, sometimes for the better. The cinematography is excellent and the scenery is breathtaking and massive.
Final Choice:
Jason Bourne. His movies are just better movies. They work your mind. They have action-packed sequences with a surprise around every corner. You constantly are wondering about the next twist in the overall plot of the series. He uses modern weapons in modern situations. Jason Bourne is the winner.
Now upcoming movies I want to see:
The Ten, Bourne Ultimatum, The Darjeeling Limited.
